Dana White was angry with the scoring and a referee at UFC 307 despite a spectacular main event between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree.
“Poatan” emerged victorious on a busy night for the UFC, with Rountree’s face dismembered by the sharp-shooting Brazilian.
But White was annoyed by some controversial results, and while he didn’t name the fight specifically, there was a lot of debate about whether Julianna Pena was able to score a split decision win over Raquel Pennington in the co-main event or whether the split decision Victory was deserved by Mario Bautista over Jose Aldo.
“I thought the scoring was horrible tonight,” White said in his post-fight press conference. “I felt like I was at a boxing match in Ireland tonight.
“I thought the judging tonight was horrible. I’ll just leave it at that. It was horrible.”
Then referee Mike Beltran came under fire, particularly for the way he handled Bautista, who constantly looked for takedowns, failed, and then pushed Aldo against the cage.
“It’s common sense,” White explained of his frustration. “If the guy keeps going like that and doing everything he can to not fight and not win the fight, as a referee you should call it a day.
“If he’s only done it three rounds in a row, and he keeps doing it, and they’re getting there, and he can’t get the takedown, give him a few seconds, see if he can get the takedown, and break it off.” ”
White could try to put pressure on officials to limit fighters’ delaying tactics and encourage more fan-friendly exchanges.
